SKIN CONDITIONS >> Rosacea
A chronic inflammatory condition which oftens goes undiagnosed.
Rosacea is a chronic condition characterized by facial erythema (redness) and pimples are sometimes a simulatenous symptom. It affects Caucasians mainly, those of northwestern European descent, but can also affect people of other backgrounds. Rosacea affects both males and females, but is almost three times more common in women and has an average age of onset of 30 - 60 years old. Symptoms appear in different stages, usually beginning with redness on the central face and across the cheeks, nose or forehead.
It can sometimes also affect the neck, chest, ears, and scalp and in some cases, additional symptoms may develop causing the condition to be classifed as more serious. These might include; red gritty eyes, telangiectasia (dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), red domed papules (small bumps) and pustules, burning or stinging sensations, and in some ultra-advanced circumstances a red lobulated nose (rhinophyma) may develop.
